30:57
Do we have the seed of an idea here?
30:59
[laughs] It's absolutely.
31:00
I mean, when you're 16, do you actually know what's good for you? And, and often we work with kids that, you know, think they know it all.
31:06
But, you know, it...
31:07
We're talking about basic English and maths qualification, the stuff that you need to write an email, to do a CV, uh, to do budgeting.
31:15
It's a great idea.
31:16
Um, obviously difficult for the kids who definitely want to disengage, makes it a bit harder.
32:23
The problem is at that point, and I know people who have been through it, how do you tell, especially a male, a young male, 15 to 16 year old, who will not get out of bed, doesn't wanna go to school, that they need to because it will all make sense in the end? Because they don't wanna hear that.
0:20
Do we have the seed of an idea here?
0:21
Yeah.
0:23
Absolutely.
0:23
I mean, when you're 16, you actually know what's good for you.

And often we work with kids that I think they know all, but we're talking about basic English and maths qualification, the stuff that you need to write an email to do a CV, to do budgeting.
0:38
It's a great idea.
0:40
obviously difficult for kids who definitely want to disengage, makes it a bit harder, but certainly empowers parents as well to say to kids, hey, you need to stay, finish the year, get a qualification, and if you want to get into a trade or a course, you need NCA Level 1 anyway.
1:45
Yeah, the problem is at that point, and I know people who have been through it, how do you tell, especially a male, a young male 15 to 16-year-old who will not get out of bed, doesn't want to go to school, that they need to because it will all make sense in the end because they don't want to hear that?

0:13
Morning, Brendan.
0:14
Good morning, Heather.
0:15
Do you reckon it's going to work? Absolutely.
0:17
We know early intervention works.
0:19
We did some research of an early intervention programme.
0:22
We worked with youth offenders three or four years ago, and we showed that every dollar of government money put into one of our programmes returned $7.10 in savings to the community and the taxpayer going forward.
0:32
As for Blue Light, most listeners will know we've been around now for 44 years.
1:27
What do you guys do? Because you don't do strictly sport, do you? You do youth camps.
0:15
Do you reckon it's going to work?
0:17
Absolutely.

We're a youth development organisation and a charity, but our key partner is the New Zealand Police, and it's through that network that we'll be able to actually target early intervention and prevention for young kids were just on the early cycle of youth offending.
1:27
What do you guys do? Because you don't do strictly sport, do you? You do youth camps, right?
