But I think the great fear here, Jake, is that it's going to be on the margins like it always is.

Like, all right, let's get a platoon fourth outfielder.

You know, let's get a middling bullpen arm.

And let's get the fifth best available catcher on the market.

I think that really fires up the Yankee fan just feeling like we're missing out on a golden opportunity to win a championship.

Yeah

... obviously, an empty home plate.

So that was '79.

And then, you know, when you grew up a Yankee fan, you know, the Gerries, the DiMaggios, the Berra's, the Whitey Ford's, like just the aura, the history, and I'm sitting there saying, "Yo, where, where is my piece of history, man?"

Yeah

... because think about this.

With all the social media criticism and scrutiny and hate, um, a young broadcaster probably wouldn't have that, that inner latitude and that freedom to put themselves out there in such a wacky way, because they know that they would get crushed.

You know, they wanna restore what, you know, that positive legacy, and I think they have that in common.

Guys, here's the bottom line.

I mean, in his years at Seattle, 68% completion percentage, over 13,000 yards, 76 touchdowns, 36 picks, and a winning record, okay? You can...

I think he was plus four in the, in the wins there.

You could take, outside of Aaron Rodgers and Fitzpatrick, there's a chance you could take almost every other Jet quarterback in the last 15 years, add up their stats together, and it [laughs] might not even be in the neighborhood of what, you know, Geno did with Seattle.

So, you know, I...

Th- a lot of the stigma is, well, he got punched in the face by...

Yes, they did.

You may say

that's where I started.

But God, God.

Amazing.

I had just graduated college.

And, you know, just based on when I was born, when the Yankees won in 77 and 78, I was too young.

I don't recollect.

it is, um, it, it, it's, it's been awesome.

Because there's, I can't tell you how many times I walked out of the garden, you know, 5,000 people against a bad Georgetown team, and, you know, it, it was teetering from inconsolable to apathetic.

I mean, you know, it's just a different day.

Uh-huh.

Like, he's a big St. John's guy, and I've, I've been doing St. John's for a long time.

So Carl and I have always had a great relationship.

But, and it was all over, it was written about, it was s- I mean, it was a, it was a disaster where we actually hung up on Carl.

Like, we got into this big argument.

So I'm like, all right, so we, we had our first live show, and we had Aaron Boone.

Boonie came by, he's the best.

Uh-huh.

Yeah, I get it.

That's true.

So, so anyway, so the, everything that we have really come to know about the game, and the energy that we put out about the game of the season, it hits a, like, the, the brakes squeak and we stop, and now we gotta regenerate.

Now it's in, I don't wanna say a benign environment, but it doesn't have that frenetic, palpable home field advantage.

It's a little more sterile.

It's a lot more corporate.

And the thing that bothers me, and I just, after a while, Jimmy, I said, "I'm just not doing this anymore.

Yeah

And, and teams you play against?

Yeah, for the most part, I think most people comport themselves well.

Listen, I think that this is a, a deeper issue, and I don't necessarily have a solution, but it's easy to identify.

College is all out of whack, and the cost to go to college, uh, I think is really placing the emphasis on the wrong things.

I mean, parents are looking at sports as a way to pay for school.

It should never be that way.

So I, I, I think that everybody's, you know, overly emotional, but I also think this, Bri, I really do.

But you don't know them as athletes, you know them in business.
