Or was it ever just the boy from Leimen?"

Well, one thing is for sure, I can't prove it, but it's very, very legit for me to ask that question hy- hy- hypothetically.

If both of these women, um, and they're the mother of my children as well, I wanna emphasize that.

Were they in love with the superstar, the, the, you know, famous guy, the rich guy? Or were they in love with the boy from Leimen, from a, from a small town? Now, one thing I, I'm, I'm sure is that when I've met Lillian, I wasn't rich anymore.

Um, I was physically impaired.

Uh, I may have a f- famous name even then, but, but she didn't care much about tennis.

She actually didn't know me on my first night.

Or at least seeing your wife, having to look at you and thinking, um, "I feel so awful that my wife and my kids have to see me like this." It must be strange.

[laughs]

Um, look, um, life just doesn't work without discipline.

It's, it's, uh, one of the cornerstones that my mother taught me.

Um, and I would add another word to it, is consistency.

Do what you say, and say what you do.

I think it's very important.

Nowadays, we live in these fast times that within a little WhatsApp message you can change your opinion 15 times in an hour, right? Back in the day, I told you, "I'll see you next week on Saturday at 7:00" and there were seven days in between, and I was there on Saturday at seven o'clock, right? We didn't need to WhatsApp each other or DM each other and all that.

This is true.

So can you tell us a little bit about how that came to be and, and the level of money that we're talking about?

Well, you can never judge a book by its cover, don't you? So you never really know what's happening, uh, on the inside.

You don't know that person's business, his surroundings.

And, uh, you know, all this doesn't happen overnight, right? It wasn't just, just one bad day or one bad week.

It was a process really after I retired from the game of tennis in '99.

I was good.

And I wanna, wanna give you a couple numbers so you get an idea because obviously I never made 100 million.

You arrive at this prison, and what happens to you? Where, where are you put? Are you put in a cell with someone else? Do you know what that person has done? Talk us through your first 24, 48 hours in prison.

Ahead of the release of his autobiography, he spoke to BBC Sports' Andy Swiss about his time behind bars and why he feels that winning the biggest prize in tennis had such a negative effect on his life.

Well, how much time you have? You have a couple of days.

I mean, it took me about 15 months to start and finish the book.

But ultimately, my life changed overnight on the 7th of July, 1985.

I became a wunderkind, became a household name.

and whether I liked it or not.

I was always crazy about tennis, I was crazy about winning, so that was my motivation to play at Wimbledon.

Can you remember what was going through your head when you first arrived at prison?
