How on earth, how do you give this guy rest considering the players that just went down this weekend?

I mean, what do you do? Yeah, it's a great point and really a question that goes on at the beginning of each season.

It's discussed during the off seasons as well in terms of what is the best way to manage your players to get the most out of them? You know, and it's that combination of, OK, we know that if a guy plays 162, there's probably going to be some deterioration in his skills and ability just from fatigue over time.

Right.

But at the same time, how much is that? And is that player at 90% still not as good as your backup player at 100%? So there's all those factors that are always being talked about and considered each offseason.

I know these are discussions not only with the Padres, but every team in baseball.

How do you best manage your best players? And there's the other element also, just in terms of, okay, this is our leader.

I still can't believe it took until the end of May for it to happen, but finally it happened.

I mean, would all three of us bet everything we own if somebody had said, you know, hey, I'm going to make you a bet that Fernando's not going to have a home run until the end of May? You know, he's healthy and everything's fine.
