Give us your backstory and, uh, how you got started, what projects you've been a part of, and how that led to Dakota Gold.
1:04
Great.
1:04
Well, I, uh, grew up in a small town, um, Canada, in New Brunswick.
1:09
I did my undergrad in, um, geology, and then went on and did my, uh, masters in mineral exploration.
1:15
So I love exploration.
1:16
I've been doing this for, as you say, 50 years now.
1:18
I started in 1976, and have worked all over the, uh, the world in that regard.

... how big is this

11:34
Yeah, I guess my point in bringing that up was that it probably had to be pretty good for you
2:20
Mine builder Bob Quartermain, named to the Order of Canada just last week, framed it as structural.
2:25
Gold now has surpassed US Treasuries.
2:27
Now, it hasn't surpassed, you know, US dollars if you look at all types of dollar investments.
2:33
But, you know, gold represents, what? 23 to 25%, based on the World Gold Council, of central banks' holdings.
2:40
So, you know, that's different.
2:41
We're finding central banks continuing to buy.
5:52
And Bob Quartermain's advice to his younger self and to anyone starting out.
5:56
Two things, focus on good geology and be willing to take risk.
3:29
From where you sit with all of your experience, is this a real turn in the cycle, or is it just kind of a, a breather inside the bull market, like you said?
3:37
No, I think it's a breather in the bull market, and one of the things that I think is different this time than let's say in the 2011 run up when we had gold moving, that was largely driven by speculation.
3:47
You know, the retail investors within it, perhaps going into the ETFs.
3:51
What we've seen is that systemic change now when you look at global reserves, monetary reserves, you know, gold now has surpassed US Treasuries.
4:00
Now, it hasn't surpassed, you know, US dollars if you look at all types of dollar investments.
4:05
But you know, gold represents, what? 23 to 25% based on the World Gold Council of central banks' holdings.
4:12
So you know, that's different.
