As you've made that journey, then after that, that chapter of your life, have you been able to talk with them about their own journeys and how they can find solace outside this kind of addiction?
49:20
Yeah, I think that's one of the advantages you have.
49:22
And I say at times, one of the best things that happened to me in my life was being an alcoholic who found recovery.
49:30
I have to add who found a recovery to that pretty quickly.
49:33
Nobody wakes up and says, oh, I wish I could be an alcoholic.
49:37
It's something that usually develops over time.
49:40
And it's cunning, baffling, and powerful, as he said in the program.
54:37
But what are the things that drive you that are important, not just today, but to your grandchildren and great grandchildren and beyond?
36:25
Okay.
36:27
Is that the way it is now? There are some exceptions, right? There are certain positions like the fire chief and the treasurer and the clerk that are the responsibility of the council.
36:42
But in general, giving the CAO the power over staff meant that there was no interference from council with staff.
36:52
There shouldn't be, and so this just solidifies it.
36:57
And look, the reason I took those two powers was to protect staff.
37:03
You know, quite frankly, if you watch our meetings, particularly if you watch through the budget process, you'll find situations where councillors have been, I think, very unfair to staff and have been... almost to the point of harassing them.
37:22
And I had met with staff a number of times through this term in which they asked me to give them some protection from counsel because, look, what generally happens is, and when I started as a counselor, is that if you had a question about a report that was coming up, and understand, we get the agenda generally on the Friday before the Thursday meeting.

So we don't know what the study says, but do you have any thoughts on going forward? Do you have a model in mind? What are your thoughts?
