How do you translate that information into a patient conversation without maybe sort of overpromising?

Blair AshleyGUEST
I find if you really get into the nuances of data that you get kind of blank stares during the headlight look.

Blair AshleyGUEST
So I tell people, we're looking at about a 1% to 2% risk of dislocation in this particular scenario and then you know if i still get funny looks i'm like you know two out of 100 people you know but um just trying to explain that it's it hap like it happens it's not zero and i think as we've been talking about um during this time is that you know sometimes there is this idea in the kind of popular public literature that like oh direct into your hips so you don't dislocate so some of that is just kind of re-educating people that that number is not zero We're looking at single digit, I say single digit risk, but the risk is there.

So can you go into what your practice type is and what the different practices out there are that joint replacement surgeons practice in?

Blair AshleyGUEST
And basically what that looks like from, as a, from a surgeon perspective, if anyone's thinking about jobs, like a nice thing about being a hospital employed surgeon is a lot of the things surrounding your surgery are provided for you by the hospital.

Blair AshleyGUEST
Like for example, I have a physician assistant with me the office I have a nurse like a nurse practitioner with me and the operating room those are not people that I am paying directly or I need to support directly those are people that are employed by the hospital with the purpose of helping me like the clinics I go to the satellite offices I go to are all again under that same ordinance and I don't need to worry about any of the business elements of being a doctor, of which there are many if you're in something like a private practice.

How would you counsel a friend or a family member about choosing a surgeon and which factors are important?
