Stinking shame, Chesterfield County board hears of leachate geyser black goo-like ooze and elevated ammonia levels at the zombie dump, the Shoesmith Landfill, while millionaire owners hide in Texas.

And this is an interesting story that kind of has its roots in 2019 when Chesterfield County noticed elevated ammonia levels in its sewer system and then traced it back to a so-called secret pipe system.

that was connected to a manhole that was emanating from the Shoesmith Brothers landfill.

The county pulled the operator's permit two years ago, and those operators sold $40 million worth of real estate around the same time and went back to Texas.

Now the landfills and bankruptcy protection and the cleanup is expected to last about 30 years and cost $173 million.

Where the question will be, however, is who will pay for it.
