um where the hospital that i trained over there it was a level one trauma center so very busy we saw the full spectrum of reconstructive surgery within the head and neck and then afterwards i knew i wanted to focus more on aesthetics so i moved over to chicago for a year doing facial plastic and reconstructive surgery where I had training both in a private practice and at an academic hospital.

Gina BirchHOST
How did you, did you come from a family of physicians? Was just something you were always interested in? Or I'm always curious how you started off on that path too.

Beth SuarezGUEST
Yeah, it was no one in my family is a physician or even in healthcare or science.

Beth SuarezGUEST
I started out wanting to be a chemist and do kind of a doctor's degree and do like a Ph.D., But eventually I worked at a lab that was in biochemistry and we worked with cancer cells.

Beth SuarezGUEST
And at that point I had a great mentor, like Dr. Flaherty was saying earlier, the power of mentorship is so important during this career path that I started shadowing a trauma surgeon when I did a research opportunity.
