So this
38:37
story has so many different layers.
38:39
I'll try to distill it down into the main points.
38:42
As with many of the stories that I write, I had a parent from Pensbury School District reach out to me, actually a Jewish parent, very concerned because the Young Democratic Socialist Club, yes, and for those of your listeners that don't know this, many of our public schools have Democratic Socialist Clubs at the high school level.
39:03
And they were sponsoring a discussion on Palestinian genocide on October 7th, you know, the anniversary of the horrific attacks against Israelis three years ago.
39:17
And so I think a number of Jewish parents complained and the school district, rightfully so, canceled this event.
39:25
But the school district didn't respond to my request for comment about why they canceled it.

7 MINS LATER

But why not just put it toward people who need it? There are needy children and family who need breakfast or lunch, etc., Why would they do this in wealthy areas?
95:19
How about the founding fathers, though? How do we approach them, do you think?
95:23
Well, you know, I think that we need to teach history in a historically accurate context.
95:30
And, you know, certainly we had presidents who were skeptical about freeing slaves.
95:36
That was the time in which we lived.
95:40
And I don't think that there's anything wrong with explaining what each and every founding father thought about slavery and whether they were ready or not to end it.
95:51
I until we got to a place where a president stood very, very strongly against slavery.
95:59
And I think that's all a part of our evolution.
96:58
clinical that's exactly right but you know i didn't still say coming out of high school if the question is is america still a racist society that should even be a question the kid on a netbook cd evolution and celebrate the evolution now arguing about tweaking certain things is there a next frontier of something that has to be looked at that's a pretty provocative question i could live with that too But the idea that we still want to portray America as basically relatively the same or even close to that is just factually troublesome, to put it mildly, and hateful and detrimental in the end.
