Conan MoynihanHOST
So for those of you who, those who are listening who aren't familiar with who you are, Bert, can you take us back to when you started your career? How did you ended up spending working kind of most of your life in soil ferti- fertility and, uh, agriculture?

Bert QuinGUEST
Well, it was a bit of a, um, curvy path, uh, initially, 'cause [laughs] as you say, my PhD was in a composite one in biogeochemistry and using plant and soil analysis to find, um, nutrients, mineral deposits, I should say.

Bert QuinGUEST
A lot of my training was in analytical methods and work with some pretty exciting equipment at the time.

Bert QuinGUEST
So, uh, then I started to become more interested in, in water quality and did some work on that, a bit of work on that for my- PhD and in '74, I was all set to go and do a post-doc on, uh, lake water quality in Canada, Ontario.

Bert QuinGUEST
And, uh, I was doing one last field trip for my PhD, and, um, had, um, done a whole lot of s- soil and plant testing up, uh, down at the scheelite or tungsten deposit near Glenorchy.
