That's fieldmaps.ie.
7:07
Yeah, it was actually very enjoyable because with videos, you're kind of time constrained.
7:12
And even with a live show as well, you're time constrained.
7:15
Like if you're doing a solo show, you're looking at an hour.
7:19
An hour show or two halves of 40 could go a little bit longer, but... and with the stories i found it really refreshing that i could flesh them out even more i could delve deeper into them i'd know like any time i i was writing essays before i was just answering a question you know it was for for when i was doing history in college or geography or when i was doing my teaching degree or you know you're just answering a question and away you go but with this you're you're you're asking your own question and answering it again and you can do as much as possible with the characters you can take them oh this road and that road and i think one of the most enjoyable things i had was was was the nicknames within the within the book so i any character that i'd say i used to i used to work for this fella and i'd give him a nickname like uh for example nephew his football trainer he's known as dan duracell and they're like why is he called duracell he's called duracell because he kept boasting about getting two a's in his leaving cert as I say to people the nicknames they're not just like Mick the Leak because he's a bad plumber these are kind of higher level uh nicknames so i would say a lot of effort with them

There's a little bit of, I suppose, I mean, it's very funny, but there's a bit of pathos as well, a little bit of a tinge of sadness as well.
9:54
There is, of course.
9:55
Yeah, you have to.
8:01
there a
8:02
pub tour? There was.
8:04
After COVID in 2022, I did a rural pub tour.
8:09
High schools.
8:10
Yes, literally brought the show to small pubs all around the highways and back roads of Ireland and kind of doing something similar again this year where I did community centres because we started back in my own home village in Port Magee, did a comedy festival and the only venue that would hold more than 200 people is the community centre so got in a production team got in sound and lighting team to deck out the whole place make it look unreal and we had myself and there was Chris Kent Bernard O'Shea Fred Cook Colin Morrigan brilliant line up what a line up the the hall was packed for two nights the bars were packed the village was packed all weekend we were like there's something in this this is great crack and doing it again this year so doing it again in the February bank holiday weekend tickets aren't on sale just yet but I'm delighted to say our headline act this year is Connor Sketches
12:59
yeah it's
12:59
hard like writing events filming and editing a video with a character and particularly with my characters I play all of them yep you do there's a lot of work in that shoot it this way and then shoot it that way shoot it that way and cut and edit and that can be quite taxing mentally and physically so I guess with the book I kind of found that I was able to expand them out completely particularly like the nephew and gossip I also have Kevin and George that's right yes so there's a story each from them in the book as well so it's a nice little surprise halfway through the book that you get Kevin's a very peculiar character tell us about Kevin Kevin sees the world very differently to the rest of them right I would say Gossip Nephew and Gerard, who is the big job above in Dublin guy, they have notions about themselves.
13:45
They're the guys, they think that, you know, I know what I'm doing.
1:41
I guess
1:42
I've, The characters have been fairly well established down through the years, the Gossip and the Nephew and their lesser known cousins, Kevin and Gerard.
1:50
I've been doing videos for years on them and it's always, it kind of created their own world and, you know, I'd be walking down the street and people would go...
1:57
How's the nephew? Is he going to make the minors this year? How's Gossip? Or how's Kitty the Step they'd be talking about? A lot of the characters that I never even put on camera created so many.
2:07
There was Pat Fox.
2:08
There was McCarthy the Low Road.
2:10
Foley.
3:22
And you had to balance the two, didn't you?
10:17
So for our listeners' benefit, Bernard is wearing a wonderfully bright yellow jersey.
10:22
Very vintage.
10:23
When I was talking to your researcher, they're like, what? vintage jersey could you bring or anything and I was like jeez I don't have too many but I knew this was in my brother's wardrobe and I was down at home in Kerry yesterday this is the Kerry District League under 21 jersey from the early 2000s I'm guessing around 2003 that way this is before Kerry actually formed the Technical League of Ireland club there only a few years back where before that all the clubs around the county would come together and you'd make the county team and go around you know, play Kennedy Cup or...
10:56
Yeah, yeah.
10:57
Kennedy Cup was a huge thing.
10:58
Oh, yeah.
10:59
No, this is my brother represented him for under 21.
12:39
and there's not a chance it's tough though because it's like five a side for me is you know that last remnant of being a carefree kid and like you know my other half is always asking me like why are you guys so obsessed with this Wednesday night five a side thing and I think it's because it's like you just for an hour every week you just get to go back to being a kid again
1:29
So sit back, relax, and enjoy Conversations with Cornelius.
1:32
But, like, the nicest thing ever about, uh, doing it, doing the show, it's particularly a solo show, you've sorted out, you've had a great fecking night.
1:41
You come home.
1:43
If you don't stay out, you s- you come home back to your house.
1:46
Everyone's above stairs in bed.
1:47
You come in, you check, everything's grand.
1:49
No water.
