How was that?

Yeah, it was, it was all right, you know.

I, um...

It was quite a long time planning it.

It's something that, like, me and, uh, Rachel had discussed for, like, years.

L- long, long time, even before we had kids.

It was always something that was there in the background, and something that would always come up, some life event, uh, you know, you're getting married or you move house, or you have another kid or whatever.

And there was kind of a belief from day one, I think, when they moved- when they took the reins, 'cause it was like, "Oh, these guys probably know what they're on about," even though, you know, the PE teachers don't really know too much.

And so first pr- first job in professional football, and then sure enough, the end of that season, we've won the league, we've been FA Cup quarter-finalists.

It's- it was just that that was a dream season, and then from there it's kind of taken the stability that that allowed us to have and, and built on it to get to, to where we are now.

Um, and yeah, like, as, as Emily said, there are just so many moments from last season that, that'll live with me forever, and I know we- we've had this chat many a time in our, uh, in our States US WhatsApp and, and our Discord channel where it's like, well, I th- I, I think, I, I think that was probably the best day of my life.

And you know, my wife was stood with me at the game, and when... you know, the Reading away game, and like Jack Moylan put that goal in the last minute and everybody just exploded, and once I'd stopped- once I'd gotten a little brief pause in those moments between bawling my eyes out, I just turned to my wife and I said, "Look, I love you.

You're my world, but this is the best day of my life." And she just went, "Yeah, it's all right.

I felt like that.

Like, I felt like I'd spent the whole of the 90s, like from 92 to whatever, going to so many playoff finals, going to the Coca-Cola Cup finals, League Cup finals even.

And, you know, witnessing the highs and the lows, but there's always this optimism there of we can do it, we can do better.

Mid-table would have been fine for us in just a couple of cup finals and maybe Europe every now and again would have been amazing.

But, you know, just seeing that and witnessing it and seeing the reaction of the city, the way when we won, you know, I was living in Australia halfway through the season because I I felt that I was just going to the football too much, to be honest with you.

And I wanted a change of life, change of career.

You would know.

I, I guess for realtors who may not be familiar with it, uh, just what is the Ombudsman program?

Okay.

Well, Ombudsman is the first step when things come up to, uh, ECAR.

Somebody has an issue, and they'll appoint it to our director there.

Um, and the director will take that issue and then reach out to the Ombudsman, say, "Who do you have an issue with either of these parties," first of all, some kind of relationship or something.

Yeah.

So just let, you know, like we said, a lot of times they want to talk so much about the deal or what, what was agreed, and so give them that opportunity to speak about it, and then there you go.

They've said their piece, they're relieved, you know, and generally then they're, we move on from that.

How, how do you tailor what you're doing?

Yeah, so we, um, initially we would, uh, talk to the parents if we have a discussion with them beforehand and understand if there's any history.

For example, a, a fatality or a big accident.

We quite often get kids that are, um, been exposed to something like that.

Um, others are just, uh, confident, overconfident, so there's a real mix.

Um, and it's about just slowing them down and going back, back to the basics and going through that.

Uh, one of the key things is, um, uh, that caller or the text before about, uh, you know, just get in the car and drive to Sydney sort of thing.

She's now in her 30s, and I would like to find someone who specializes in teaching people who've experienced driving trauma."

So

yeah, he came in and he's worked with some really good keepers.

Obviously, he's not solely responsible for their entire development, but he was well-respected as a goalkeeping coach.

And then he kind of had a bit of a hybrid role.

I think at the start of last season was more... getting, getting interested in set pieces a bit more and, and sort of, you know, designing what we were doing outfield.

And that became his sort of hybrid role as, as set piece coast and set piece coach and goalkeeping coach.

And, Then there was a brief spell.
