Why do people do it, basically?

Ben SchmidtGUEST
Embalming in the UK and embalming in the United States, two different things, right? And I say that because in the United States, we have highly regulated requirements for embalmers, where you have to, uh, serve an apprenticeship, you have to go to mortuary school.

Ben SchmidtGUEST
Um, you know, we have textbooks that are written about embalming that you have to follow, and then you have to pass a board exam, a national one, before you can get your license and practice.

Ben SchmidtGUEST
So I can see why, um, funeral directors have some trepidation about who is gonna be embalming your loved one, and they might have seen some bad outcomes because if people aren't trained, you know, because of like the fluid regulations in Europe versus the United States.

Ben SchmidtGUEST
You know, you all have the Biocide Directive, which makes it more difficult to get access to formaldehyde products, where here in the United States we have OSHA regulations, which they work a little bit differently when it comes to that stuff.

Um, c- can you talk us through what embalming is? Like, what's the main process of it?
