How did you approach this book? What prompted you to write it? And what did you really want the reader to take away?

Absolutely.

The Layered Home is all about collecting the things that you love and living with objects that tell your story.

And I think it's so important in the conversation that we'll have today about styling and photo shoots because really seeing your space through fresh eyes is so important these days.

We see so many images, and you really want them to stand out.

Um, in, in, in putting the book together, um, I was chatting with a friend, and we were just kind of jokingly talking about how it would be so fun to see my own Instagram kind of come to life in a book.

And so I was extremely adamant in the beginning about shooting the entire book fresh, like, all new imagery, and I think it's, um, it's important to see things through, you know, a fresh, fresh set of eyes.

So I think, you know, it's part of that responsibility as a designer or a homeowner to allow a little bit of space and grace for things to evolve naturally over time.

Yeah.

I really respond to rooms with tension, rooms that have a lot of old things mixed with new things, a lot of super polished fine objects mixed with kind of worn out and sort of maybe less desirable things too.

I think editing isn't always about taking things away, but it's about making sure every single piece really earns its keep in a room.

And one thing that I told my publisher, which is Clarkson Potter, a part of Penguin Random House, was that I wanted to shoot the entire book 100% original photography, all new.

So I called up my friend Manuel Rodriguez, who's an incredible interiors photographer.

And he was someone I knew I could like traverse down the one lane roads in the British countryside.

And, you know, we got lost trying to find Ambrose Miller's really unassuming home, like on the side of the road, asking for directions, like going the wrong way, you know, So Ambrose is a great example.

And I wonder if through all of that, you have developed a mindset or, or, or an approach that helps guide you through, through all of that.
