And so how did your musicality develop? How did you become a person who makes these amazing sounds and composes and-

I did not grow up being a musician in any kind of way because in that world that I grew up in, in a very stringent Orthodox observant world, they don't train the kids, especially the girls, women, to be in the secular world or develop a skill or a talent that's going to move beyond the borders of the safety of the community.

So anything that would take you out of the community, they don't train you for.

And I was the natural-- I think most of the kids that I grew up with, we all used to sit around and sing.

That was part of how we spent time together.

And because the singing was such a big part of our like recesses and our gatherings and our get-togethers, we all developed a sense of melody and harmony and not necessarily in a schooled way, but in the sense of like, here's a melody.

What do you want to do to hear your own voice in this sea of other voices? Because you want to be a part of the harmony and you also want to like find your own voice that sings its own expression.
