But I corresponded with the, uh, shop owner, um, beyond that, and he sent me a bunch more videos, and I, uh, looked very carefully at those and listened carefully to the ones that were audio, and they were more ...

There were some that were quite interesting.

Um, things that seemed to come off a shelf in the, in the vape shop, and sounds of human voices.

But as I did my remote investigation, uh, looking at maps and configurations of the building and stuff like that, I could see that this building was surrounded with parking lots and sidewalks and s- in, in, between other businesses, and the voices that they were recording could easily have come from the other side of the wall.

And that, and the explanations were, were just that easy, except for one video that he sent.

Super interesting.

11ths?And yet so ingrained is the idea that even the social scientist had to stop himself from jumping to conclusions on a bad day.

I lead hikes every Friday morning.

I happened to lead one on, I think it was February the 13th, which was a Friday.

Even though I'm not a believer in superstition, it would have been very easy for me to come to the c- conclusion that that hike was jinxed somehow.

Uh, we had somebody who got really faint, uh, which had never happened before.

I missed a turn and led people at least a quarter mile in the wrong direction.

[laughs] Someone lost their hiking poles after we had a break and had to go back and get them.

How does that kind of relationship between 12 and 13 maybe play into, to some of our feelings about number 13?

Take us, uh, down a few stories of the haunted vape house in, uh, South Carolina.

Uh, well, this is one where I was asked to weigh in on what appeared to be, uh, haunting going on at a, a vape shop, actually.

It was in a mini mall, uh, in, uh, West Columbia, South Carolina.

And, uh, a documentary filmmaker contacted me.

He said, "I'm doing this, this documentary for, for a guy who owns this shop." And I told him I wouldn't do it unless I got some kind of a skeptical voice in, into the documentary as well.

So, uh, he contacted me.

He sent me a whole bunch of, uh, evidence, I'm putting that in air quotes, uh, which consisted of, uh, um, surveillance videos and, uh, audio recordings and, uh, some personal testimonies from people who had witnessed things.

With nobody around it, right?
