All right, let's get into it with Barry Cinnamon on how data centers can help pay for your home solar system.
2:01
This is the other thing I want to talk about.
2:02
And this is more of a concept.
2:04
It's not a real product.
2:05
It's just something that is really going to solve some of the big problems we have.
2:07
But the concept is basically finding ways to make data centers pay for rooftop solar and storage so they can actually get the power they need.
2:17
And it's a zero-sum game.

9:16
Why don't you talk a bit about your exploration into plug and play and how that technology might have a faster path to market than behind the meter feed-in tariff?
3:06
Yeah.
3:06
It just doesn't make...
3:07
So I, I dug into it, um, and what I found, and by meeting with s- solars in Australia and spend a lot of time there diving into it, the real costs of solar in Australia before tariffs, $2 and 4 cents.

9 MINS LATER

12:08
Okay.
12:08
So I w- so when I was in Australia, um, I, I met with a homeowner that's getting the installation of solar and batteries put on their house.
12:14
The solar was on the roof, fine.
12:16
The guy pulled up in a truck, looked, looked just like mine.
12:18
They're putting in the batteries.
1:47
How did it kind of get started in your garage, but how did you grow it?
1:50
It was, I had just come off a kind of internet hangover because my software company just couldn't get the funding it needed.
1:58
This is in 2001 during the internet crash, which unfortunately, hopefully we don't re-experience with the AI crash in a few years.
2:06
But that was kind of stressful.
2:07
And I said, gee, let me just go back to my college days and my post-college days and see how the solar thing's working.
2:12
And I ran through the numbers and this is when PG&E went bankrupt and there was the Enron crash, electric rates went up, there was incentives.
2:20
And I said, gee, let me just crunch through the objective economics for solar in California.

37 MINS LATER

39:43
But what about like the overhead and the soft costs and all that? Like, do you all wrap that into federal policy or what do you mean?
11:26
Yeah
11:26
... which is the data centers, and they're saying, "We want a lot of power." Utilities say, "We'll give it to you." And the, the ratepayers are like, "Well, we're just gonna get screwed." So I don't know a way of getting around this, but just this slide shows basically how power goes from long-distance transmission to, um, to, to the homes, businesses, and data centers.

10 MINS LATER

22:12
Okay.
22:12
So I w- so when I was in Australia, um, I, I met with a homeowner.
22:16
They're getting the installation of solar and batteries put on their house.
22:19
The solar was on the roof, fine.
22:20
The guy pulled up in a truck, looked, looked just like mine.
22:22
They're putting in the batteries.
