Let's hear from Barnaby Griffiths, a speaking coach who has been offering us advice throughout this series.

Language learning is a very ...
6:33
Well, it's a never-ending process, isn't it? And we know that it goes on and on and on.
6:37
So we sh- we, we need to be very clear that we are progressing by noticing that we've improved week on week, month on month, and celebrating that and feeling good about ourselves, and saying, "Oh, I'm better than I was a month ago."

And Barnaby suggests using video to recognize how far you've come.
7:14
A way of doing this is by, is by recording yourself.
7:17
If you record yourself a few times a week or once a week, and you compare gradually how you're improving, you should celebrate that progress because it might not be a huge difference, but I always compare it to learning a musical instrument.
7:31
These things, it, it takes a long time to learn a musical instrument competently.

But is there anything we can do practically to help get rid of this fear?
9:12
It isn't about perfection, and it isn't about necessarily being very fluent.
9:17
It's about communicating well.

9:35
So embrace your mistakes.
9:38
Above all, allow for mistakes, so self-correct is fine.
9:44
Allow pauses and silence within your communication, and learn to correct yourself, and also introduce elements such as humor, and smile and, and laugh when things go wrong, and say, "Oh, I didn't mean to say that," and, and, and have phrases like, "Let me rephrase that," or, "I need to say that again," and, and, and be vulnerable.
