You know, he, he literally had the piss scared right out of him, and, and he had to be thinking to himself, "I think I know what this is about.

During the entire 90-minute drive, Waller didn't ask a single question about why he'd been arrested.

He's probably thinking, "Maybe they only know about Sacramento." I knew that he was more savvy than some suspects, but I didn't know what to expect.

I didn't, I didn't know if he was going to wanna just give it all up and wanna brag about himself.

I didn't know if he wa- was going to deny, deny, deny.

I asked Avis when she first heard that name.

And I was actually on vacation, and when I came back, they, you know, my team was like, "Oh, you're, you're never gonna believe this.

We got a double rape." And I was like, "Oh, man, why do I always miss the good stuff?" Like, that's a really terrible thing to say, but, like, when you're in law enforcement or, you know, homicide and you get, like, a triple, it's terrible, but at the same time, it's like, wow, this is a, this is a good case, you know? So we're a little weird, all of us, but, like, that was a, that was a really exciting case for somebody who is a sex assault detective.

I was curious what Avis thought when she read Nicole's case for the first time.

I absolutely believed her.

And I felt terrible to my core that somebody would not believe her.

For, for what reason? Well, when I speak with, you know, other investigators, you know, I always tell them, "You don't lose anything by b- [laughs] by believing your victim from the get-go.
