Montana Attorney General

14:03
So first, tell us about your lawsuit and what you're alleging with TP-Link Systems, and what you believe they've done.
14:10
Yeah.
14:10
Well, what we're alleging here is that TP-Link Systems is a Chinese Trojan horse.
14:16
Uh, basically, TP-Link controls about 60% of the market share when it comes to home routers, business routers, small business wireless routers.
14:25
Whether it's in your home, in your office, they control a big, a, a, a big chunk of the market here.
14:30
Uh, and what we have found in our investigation is that despite them holding themselves out as now a wholly US-held, US-based company, that's simply not true.
14:41
Uh, they're largely based still in China.
15:39
Yeah
18:54
So, so General, how can the states take this report that, uh, g- details what took place, then provides guidance to the states, how can this be taken and, and kind of solidified so that if the pendulum swings back the other direction, we've got protections in place for parents?
19:14
Well, I'll tell you what I'm gonna do with it, Tony.
19:16
Our, our state legislature meets here in just a couple of months.
19:19
We're one of those weird states where we, we only meet for 90 days every other year.
19:23
Uh, so we, we've got a pretty good gap here.
19:25
But I'm gonna take this to our state legislature, and I'm gonna make sure all of our legislators on the education committees, on the judiciary committees, understand what was going on.
19:35
I think a lot of times your, your rank and file local officials, local electeds don't know this stuff.
20:26
Uh, this is what we're f- even my home state of Louisiana, conservative red state, but we've, uh, had to prompt, uh, our legislature to be a little more aggressive in setting a standard at the state level so that we don't see this at the local level undermining the rights of parents.
58:01
What do you think that says about Democrat attitudes about combating fraud in our country? Hmm.
58:06
I think it speaks volumes, right? I mean, you're exactly right.
58:09
This was supposed to be initially a meeting with just Republican AGs, but the vice president, to his credit, did open it up and invited all the Democrats as well.
58:18
What ended up happening is I think two Democrat staffers came from two different states.
58:23
And that was it.
58:24
I think that speaks volumes for how seriously the Democrat Party and Democrat state leadership are taking this issue.
58:32
This is a loser for them.
58:57
But what's the fight now exactly? Where do you see the next terrain, if you will?
52:42
Go ahead, Austin.
52:43
I mean, put all that aside.
52:45
This would let Netflix become about an 80% market share company.
52:49
owner of the streaming world.
52:51
But what concerns me is exactly what you just said.
52:53
I mean, Netflix has openly said they think the theater model is dated and it's dead.
52:59
They're going to squeeze up production companies.
53:34
What are you hearing? I'm hoping it's a big no, and he sends that CEO packing, because I thought I read the other day that the Trump administration wanted them to boot Susan and the Obamas off the board and stuff anyway.
44:45
How do you even make the argument that it could be good for competition? I don't think you can, General.
44:53
I don't think they can either.
44:55
We've gone from a number of railroads, so it just keeps getting a smaller and smaller and smaller number.
45:01
But this one's going to result in a real monopoly.
45:04
I mean, we don't like monopolies in America.
45:07
We've got laws in place to make sure that you can't monopolize a sector of the economy, that you can't hold people hostage, that you can't gouge people for pricing.
45:18
And unfortunately, if that's what's going to happen here, this is allowed to go through.
46:52
But
46:09
These days, almost every state and every city is a border state and a border city, and the impacts can be felt there.
46:16
Look, absolutely.
46:17
Just in four years of Joe Biden, just in Montana, our state law enforcement fentanyl seizures went up 20,000%.
46:28
Fentanyl overdose deaths in those same four years went up 2,000%.
46:33
All of our violent crime has gone up.
46:35
I don't have those numbers off the top of my head, but I can tell you if they were on a chart, that chart would look like this.
46:41
All of our violent crime has gone up.
48:16
To what degree has that happened, and what does this really mean for the future of cartels' activities in the United States? Does President Trump cutting off the border really impact that power? Because they have a lot of money.
21:55
Yeah, I know.
21:55
But they...
21:56
Look, President Trump has made headway in the Ninth.
21:58
The problem with the Ninth right now, they are so knee-jerk majority liberal that whenever we do draw a good three-judge panel and we get a good ruling, 'cause we've had a couple of them on, on Second Amendment stuff.
24:09
Right? And I'm actually hearing judges and justices now start to kind of entertain that idea.
24:15
Oh, I think that's right.
24:16
I mean, I, I...
24:17
You, you're having justices on the US Supreme Court openly say that about the S- about the Second Amendment now.
speaker_8UNKNOWN
44:25
Mm-hmm.
44:25
And, and China knows it can't beat us on the conventional battlefield, so they're engaged in asymmetric warfare, and, and part of that, to bring it home, they're absolutely funding this kind of green left litigation.
44:37
Uh, and to bring it right back to Montana, I mean, we had a huge kids' climate lawsuit.
44:44
A bunch of child plaintiffs sued the Montana legislature, sued the state, arguing that our energy policy...
44:51
We're, we're an energy state.
speaker_8UNKNOWN
46:14
Mm-hmm.
46:14
You know, "You, you shall change the state energy policy," that, that wouldn't have gone well with the [chuckles] legislature.
46:20
But, uh, they stopped just short of it.
44:03
So how many transgender athletes do you believe are in Montana right now? And is this a widespread issue or has it been magnified at all because it's a political flashpoint?
44:13
Well, I mean, I think that's an issue that likes to get thrown at us, but actually we were the first in the country to have an NCAA athlete actually take a position from a female athlete, a transgender that came into one of our university systems.
44:26
So this does happen.
44:28
It's not something that's just remote.
44:31
We have seen this numerous times in Montana.
44:33
But look, big picture, we've got over 1,500 students competitions that have been taken away from girls, over 850 medals that have been taken away from women and females.
44:45
So this isn't something that's just remote, that doesn't happen.
45:15
So what do you say to the argument that the circuit upheld that it would be unfair for female transgender athletes who don't go through hormone treatment to play on boys' teams?
