So can you, um, help explain the differences between what a patent and a trademark is?

Austin BondererGUEST
So patents are very timely, like if you have the idea, you release it publicly, you need to get that thing patented right away.

Austin BondererGUEST
You know, preferably you don't disclose it at all, but once it gets out, it's out, and after a certain time period you can never get a patent on it.

Austin BondererGUEST
Because patents cover inventions and solutions and technology, and the way the government works is they want you to get that disclosed as soon as possible.

Should, um, so what advice do you have for people that are listening and, and it, and if they think that they are hearing this and realize that they do need, like, a patent or they are interested in getting one, what advice do you have for them of how they need to appropriately obtain one, and maybe sum up a little bit about the, how they should go about it?

Austin BondererGUEST
So when they say global patent, generally what they're referring to is what's called the PCT applications, the Patent Cooperation Treaty.

Austin BondererGUEST
So basically what happened was when you filed for a patent, you had a year to file in a foreign country.

Austin BondererGUEST
But to file in that foreign country, you got to find the attorneys, you got to do, you know, figure out exactly where you want to do it.

Austin BondererGUEST
So eventually a bunch of countries got together and said, hey, What about 30 months from the date of original filing? So you can either start off by filing the PCT and then you get 30 months from then to nationalize, basically file in all these countries that you want.

So I'd love to hear some of the other things that you've seen as common mistakes when clients come to you who need a patent or a trademark, or maybe both, depending on which part of their business they're looking at.
