audrey as shelby mentioned it's kind of been an interesting confluence with a new city manager who may want to get some things done differently a city council that has you know talked about wanting to change things up and a public right now that that wants to see lower property taxes for themselves and in the the mantra is in the sweetheart deals that's that's what we hear a lot So talk about how you decided to attack this issue in a series of stories.

We had sat down a few times to kind of mull over, you know, what could a potential series on economic incentives look like.

And I think once we kind of found out, you know, that the council was going to be workshopping some of these incentive programs, It came together and we decided to tackle it as a series of stories starting with a look at how did we get here, what deals got us to this point.

We talked to a lot of different sources from all sides of economic incentives to get a better idea of what that's looked like over the years and just to set the stage for, like I just said, how we got to this point.

And then we wanted to kind of get a preview of what the council members might think or bring up during this workshop and kind of wanting to just know what their priorities are.

Followed by an explainer, you know, breaking down all the incentive programs.

A lot of the council members say they've often hear that people don't fully understand what these incentives are, how they work, what their purpose is, what the benefits that the city gets in return for some of them.
