And I've, I've seen when I was in the clinic, patients bring in i think it was an information packet on like some supplement company they're like this is really going to help my blood pressure and i remember you're like this is going to lower it like two points that's not statistically significant but this is great marketing like fantastic marketing is this a bad thing no will it really make a difference no but can you talk a little bit more about the statistic side and what helps you drive your you know decision making versus what we see on the outside

yeah so i i'll chat about um what's called absolute risk versus relative risk and then i'll also talk about another concept called statistical significance versus clinical significance and i think these are both really important this weight loss stuff is is very nuanced and um i i think it just requires this kind of careful lens looking at it so um absolute risk is if we look at a medication and we say, what are the side effects, right? We're just looking at what is the risk of this medication? We're not taking into account like, you know, the positive effects it'll have on you or the risk that if you don't do it.

So what are the risks of the medication? So those GLP-1 medications, Just like anything else you do in life, including medications like Tylenol or Ibuprofen, everything has risks.
A

So for something like Ibuprofen that people take without thinking too much, you can get stomach ulcers, you can get kidney disease, right? You can get these things for something like that.
A
27:12Aubrey HardingGUEST
For Tylenol, you can get liver failure, right? It's really easy to have these terrible outcomes from these medications.
A

What is the risk of this medication? For the GLP-1 medication class, the risks that we see are we have side effects.

But how do you have that conversation about long term effects and like getting the best possible result for that person?
