basically, it was an open mystery for a long time of where do you make heavy elements like gold? Neutron star mergers was one site that seems to be checking out.

Ashley VillarGUEST
The rate has been going down, though, of how often neutron stars hit each other.

Ashley VillarGUEST
So recently, there's been a lot of activity in like, well, what are other ways you could make it? And so maybe one paper that I wasn't involved in, but I thought was quite fun, was this theory and some observations that showed maybe when really, really highly magnetized and rapidly spinning neutron stars that we call magnetars they can sometimes like burp off a little bit.

Ashley VillarGUEST
And maybe actually make like a little puff of gold in that, which I thought was not, but heavy, heavy elements, including gold.

Charles LiuHOST
But that means you're not going to get any sleep, right? Because you're going to be planning observations every 15 seconds.

Ashley VillarGUEST
So luckily, this part of my research is not connected to my cell phone, luckily.
