So When you first entered the classroom, what did technology in the classroom mean? What did it look like?

I remember there was one desktop per class.

It was the teacher's computer.

If children, you know, they looked at it as if they're lucky, they can get on the teacher's computer.

It was a fast finisher, maybe.

If they finished all their work, they could get on the computer.

Then maybe it progressed into a school might have an ICT suite.

So I would really appreciate it if you could talk us through a little bit what led up to that decision and what it meant for you.

Before we dive into that, can you tell us a little bit about why you even got interested in studying what nestling bluebirds eat?

Sure.

And I've had people ask me, like, are you an ornithologist? Are you an entomologist? Are you like a well-rounded naturalist who knows a little bit about everything? And I'm definitely, I would say, an entomologist who accidentally wound up working on birds.

And I was not, you know, a bird nerd from the beginning.

But I'm going to take you back to February 2014.

At that point in time, I had a master's degree in entomology from the University of Delaware.

And they have kind of a cool department where it's the only one I know of that it's called the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology.

So can you tell us a little bit about your research?

Sure.

Uh, so I did my project as part of my doctoral research when I was a grad student at the University of Delaware.

Uh, and my advisor was Doug Tallamy, who I know has been a guest on the show before, so I'm sure your listeners are very familiar with his work.

Um, and he, he gets the credit for really coming up with the idea of it.

Um, I was just the one who tried to execute his, his vision.

Um, but he is a really gifted photographer as well as being an ecologist, so he had taken some really nice images just, um, you know, in, in his yard or on, on travels of birds bringing insect prey back to feed their nestlings.

... as the season progresses and you get into those warmer months.
