Do you see that having changed over the last 10, 20 years in your relationship with clients? Do you think hairdressers broadly are more aware of how their clients are feeling about coming and how what their sort of experience of the salon is?
2:29
Yeah I think so for sure I mean that was such a brilliant evening so thank you for putting that on and it's so needed I feel like that whole topic in our industry is so important right now and I personally went along to it because almost every single one of my clients in some way is dealing with some form of hair loss at the moment.
2:52
And wellness is the core to all of those things.
2:55
Yeah.
2:57
so yeah i think it's really interesting like i've always i'm a science nerd so i mean when i started in the industry 20 odd years ago um as soon as i started learning all the science behind color and hair growth and um my consultation was always like your hair is fed from your blood and what's going on inside you is going to be affecting your hair and how are you doing as a person yeah was always kind of a key thing but it was not a key thing to everyone in their consultation and I feel like now it is.
3:28
I feel like that's something that even if 20 years ago you weren't saying that, you are now.
3:36
Which I find really fascinating because the world in general is so about optimization of people, which I personally don't necessarily agree with.

19:34
What, negative things?
19:39
What does this look like to you, and what teens are using where-- What does it look like from where you sit?
19:48
You know, you're-- You, you hit on a really important point, Jessica, when you talked about the why, and you talked about how it's-- we often see it in, in, you know, there's a problem, there's an issue, there's, there's something going on, there's a crisis, and, and teens, adolescents may turn to substance use.
20:11
And, you know, research tells us that 90% of adults who use illicit substances, um, actually were also using them as adolescents.
20:24
And so it starts at such an early age, and that risk continuing over into, um, adulthood of using substances.
20:34
Now, when we talk about children and adolescents, again, we're talking about, like you said, we're talking about there may be, there may be a mental health issue, there may be problems at home, there may be problems at school, there may be health problems, um, there may be an- there may be anxiety, there may be bullying, there may be depression, and, and this is a method of self-medicating.
20:58
Also, we look at the social pressures.
21:01
Uh, you know, if they're gonna belong to a group, is this a group that they're go- where they're going to be accepted? And they feel then pressured to join within that group, or they're already a part of that group and are pressured.

But what do we do when we get there? How do we educate parents about this, and how do we respond in that clinic setting, Ashley?
