What is trauma-informed practice?

Yeah, and a really good question to start with, because as you say, it is bounced around quite a lot.

The word, the phrase, it's become quite a catchy buzzword.

Now, What do we mean by trauma-informed practice? Trauma-informed practice is a way of being, and I think that's really important to start off with.

So it's just not a switch that people can switch on and off to say, okay, I'm with this person who's experienced some form of trauma, so I'm going to behave in this particular way, I'm going to be in this way.

So it's somebody that has an understanding of how they're feeling if they're feeling same say if they're feeling regulated if they're feeling dysregulated and how is that then perceived by somebody else so if you think about um Let's take a young person that we're interacting with that's struggling.

Trauma-informed practice would mean that that adult that is there to support that young person would be going in at a place where they're safe, calm and regulated, that they're aware of how they're feeling.

But when we talk about walking each other's shoes, I would say it's really hard to walk in someone else's shoes if they are quite a bit different in their lives to you because of all your personal experiences.

Because most of

these kids may not have even had a meal before they go to school or even that opportunity to go to school.

Who do they serve? And if someone is interested, which should they call?
