So walking into this animal shelter, where was your mind at? How were you thinking, this is a great way for us to make a big impact on these animals' lives?
10:27
Well, POS is very special.
10:28
Like I said, they've been around since the 1960s in the Atlanta area, but it's not just a building.
10:33
It's like a compound.
10:34
They have different areas.
10:36
They had a lot of needs.
10:38
Some of the buildings were super, super old.
12:09
So for pet parents specifically, can you share any of the biggest fire hazards around our homes that we might not realize that pets could accidentally create?
10:46
Art, tell us about Home for Good, and where did this idea come from? Well, John, thank you
10:51
so much for allowing me to speak about it.
10:53
Yeah, we're passionate about Home for Good, helping people doing good in their communities, whether they're a first responder, a veteran, or just somebody who puts others before themselves in their community, volunteers their time, helping people, kids, animals, older folks, everybody's included in Home for Good.
11:11
And we honor them by telling their story and providing a renovation to a home or a space in their home or a backyard area that is desperately needed.
11:20
And I spent the last 11 years working on a show on Lifetime co-hosting, honoring our nation's veterans.
11:28
So I'm no stranger to the home renovation space.
11:30
And when the opportunity presented itself to create our own show, me and my team created Home for Good.
12:13
So how far ahead are you guys working right now? The shows that we're watching, were these things filmed like a long, long time ago? First season
1:49
And I know that we can grow from this.
1:53
yeah they run towards the danger whether they're veterans that you know have have taken off the uniform but they're still serving their community what what about volunteers that want to get homeless animals off the street and find them their forever home so they're being recognized we're honoring people that have served a lifetime of service in the public and want to enjoy their retirement but have health issues now and can't leave their home how tragic is that so we're upgrading a room a space uh something in the backyard uh to honor these individuals and we're telling their stories and you know arrow I always say uh at the end of every episode it doesn't take a lot to help someone in need so make every bit of kindness count and that's the message that we're trying to leave our younger generation with uh the parents the older generation it's a show that everybody can watch on a saturday or a sunday morning on abc weekend adventure and not only are we making these spaces beautiful with the renovation we're also educating on the benefits of fire and carbon monoxide safety and making them safe sanctuaries for our families
3:29
And that's exactly what you're doing is that you are helping to sew up community.
3:36
Well, yeah, that's a great way to look at it.
3:38
You know, I spent 11 years on another show, co-hosting, doing makeovers for our nation's veterans.
3:44
And we decided it was time to honor people in everyday community, whether it's the firefighter whose house burned to the ground.
3:52
Imagine that.
3:53
Or a police officer who lost a child tragically when a caretaker left their child in a hot car.
3:04
And I know that we can grow from this.
3:08
yeah they run towards the danger whether they're veterans that you know have have taken off the uniform but they're still serving their community what what about volunteers that want to get homeless animals off the street and find them their forever home so they're being recognized we're honoring people that have served a lifetime of service in the public and want to enjoy their retirement but have health issues now and can't leave their home how tragic is that so We're upgrading a room, a space, something in the backyard to honor these individuals.
3:40
And we're telling their stories.
3:42
And, you know, Arrow, I always say at the end of every episode, it doesn't take a lot to help someone in need.
3:48
So make every bit of kindness count.
3:50
And that's the message that we're trying to leave our younger generation with.
3:55
The parents, the older generation, it's a show that everybody can watch on a Saturday or a Sunday morning on ABC Weekend Adventure.
4:44
And that's exactly what you're doing is that you are helping to sew up community.
