What do you think he understood about music and about children that made his work so timeless?

I think he understood the synergy of words and music, lyrics and music.

He, um, said many times of his jazz career that he would only perform a song if he loved the lyrics.

He said, first of all, he had to connect with the lyrics.

Then he would work to make a unique interpretation, and one that, that brought his feeling for the lyrics out.

So taking that to Schoolhouse Rock, I know he paid attention to, to the lyrics and also to how to allow them to be meaningful and reach the listener.

I mean, every-- That includes everything from what they call diction, like, can you understand the singer? [chuckles] Often you can't, and sometimes that doesn't matter.
