well maybe i'm gonna like go off the off the script off the five films i told you i was gonna recommend because yeah i know well i know this is a film that we're all uh interested in maybe i'm the only one who's seen it we are the shags the uh documentary about The incredible outsider art garage rock band of the late 60s from I think New Hampshire is from where they hail.

I guess you evoked the idea of the documentary that sort of like is overly reverential to someone or those kind of rockumentaries that just feel like ads for the band's back catalogue.

This really doesn't feel like that at all.

And what I thought was really interesting was because the Shags music is so... alien and strange and unmusical to lots of people.

The film opens, well, there's a very amusing prologue at the start where the filmmaker has just set up a listening booth and invited random passers-by to come in and listen to this music and filmed their bewildered reactions.

But after that, he invites along, you know, like, critics and composers and record producers and even a psychologist to talk about how this music came to be to like really critically examine it and I thought that that's something that I feel like is really missing from most uh rockumentary say they just take the idea of this person was a genius and their music is amazing, they take that as a self-evident truth.

Yeah.
