Can you walk us through how that project evolved into a commercial software company, and what made you decide that this was the right time to build a business around the platform?
1:28
So basically, MZIO has its roots in academia, and it all started, yeah, with a PhD project.
1:37
Actually, it was in Finland in 2004, and yeah, it was one PhD student in the lab of Matej Režec.

And it was the time around when high resolution mass spectrometry really kicked off with the arrival of the Orbitrap.

Time-of-flight instruments got better, and the d- the machines, they produced more and more data.

And yeah, like in other occasions, instrumentation was faster than software on the development side, so scientists had to build their own stuff, and this is basically what the project was all about back in the day.

And yeah, they've published mzMine 1 in 2006, and quickly after that, our co-founder, Thomas Puskar, joined the project.
