Uh, what made you, uh, interested? How did this start for you? Y-you know.

Okay.

Uh, I am from far Southern Illinois, so when I moved to Decatur, when I got married to my husband, um, I was looking for volunteer work because I think volunteer work is exceedingly important for every organization, and it's something that I think Is declining because there is a certain age of people who do volunteer work.

But anyway, I started out here as a master gardener, and then when I was unable to garden, I said, "Okay, I will move into the house."

[laughs]

And, um, the house reminded me of my, uh, great-grandfather's grandfather's home in Southern Illinois.

It was a little bit older, but the woodwork, and that is what just absolutely fascinated me.

Um, my grandfather did have connections with A.E. Staley, and of course, I heard about the football team, but he was also, in the '30s, an undersecretary of agriculture, and he said Mr. Staley was the most honorable man and was very impressed with him.
