So in relation to the creative industries, you think that this is a sacrifice?
4:17
Look, our whole commercial business is based off licensing copyright.
4:22
The value in music monetarily is created through intellectual property law, copyright law.
4:28
And that is the same for the whole digital economy for that matter.
4:31
It is literally not tangible property.
4:33
It is intellectual property, but it is extremely valuable.
4:37
Because of that, we are extremely good at licensing our property and we have a very sophisticated and efficient global licensing framework that operates across the world.

13 MINS LATER

Given that you are an expert in copyright, what's going to happen to journalism? What's going to happen to publishing?
9:24
Because in some jurisdictions, the UK being one of them, There are some changes that are relevant for Australia,
9:29
right? The UK, look, it was a bit similar to Australia.
9:33
So you might remember last year, the Productivity Commission came out and said, oh, we think it might be a good idea to have what's called a text and data mining exception, which is basically a way of doing what Scott Farquhar and others want, which is get rid of copyright from the equation and allow access, free and full access to our work for AI training.
9:53
The same debate was having the UK.
9:56
In Australia, the Attorney General ruled it out late last year and said, we are not going to do that.
10:01
And in the UK, very recently, actually, the UK government has come out after a massive outcry in the UK, similar to here, and said, actually, we're not going to do that either.
10:12
They've backed down from that.
12:16
And it can enlist people in a cultural sense, people who work in the radio industry, people who work in the media industry to understand these conversations, but also advocate to protect our own copyrights.
