You also might want to look for whether the custody order would require any changes to the school's emergency pickup list or any ways that the child is picked up from school.

Does it now specify who is going to come in and pick up the child? Does it designate who's not allowed to pick up the child? Is there a new name that you need to add to the emergency contact list? Things like that can be included in the custody order as well.

You want to make sure that you're never releasing student records to an unknown parent or someone that's contrary to the court order that the school has on file.

So just make sure that you're only releasing student records to those individuals that have the right to receive them.

And like Amanda said earlier, we really want to stay neutral and try not to take sides or write letters of support for one parent or the other.

Even if what they've asked you to prepare is purely factual in nature, we really want to make sure that the school is remaining neutral and not getting themselves involved in family court matters unnecessarily.
