I'm just saying, listening around the world, it's close to Aberdeen.

Yeah, you're not considered in Aberdeen by some of the contract houses.

Anyway, so we'd walked away from the offer, downturn came and we had 2.4 million in the bank.

So what do you do? You can shut the doors and pay everyone off and then trot off with...

But we'd probably have cleared about 1.8 personally and seen the downturn through quite happily.

But we couldn't because a lot of people that worked for us, their spouses had lost their jobs.

And Lawrence Kirk was in a crisis.

So I would like to see this industry take it seriously and realize that if you're a man in a room with all men, that this is not normal and it shouldn't be normal.

So how did that even come about?

So kind of a long winding road.

I was at the DA's office, got diagnosed with cancer.

I left the job, not because I didn't love being a DA.

I loved it.

But as you know, it's pretty 24-7.

I couldn't do that job and take care of my health.

I would just like to finish our conversation today with just your thoughts on the role of the CAC and how that intervention is so valuable.

And, and what are you seeing around the show, and what's the most innovative things that are happening at RSA this year?

You know, it's definitely the year of AI.

Everybody wants to know how you're going to secure agents.

Um, everybody wants to know how you're going to use AI to make your cybersecurity better and also how you're going to protect AI.

But I will tell you, I saw a company that didn't talk to me for the whole time about AI, and they were all about things about configurations and getting sure the configuration's right and using AI to improve that.

And that was a unique approach as far as I was concerned because everybody's talking modern SOC or protecting agents, and these guys are like, "Look, you can use AI to make your configurations better." I said, "That is cool."

Are there anything in the GRC space that interests you?

Well, my, my very close friend, Eric Ernst, is at a company called Red Scale.

What are they?

So one, we are taking this day by day and the special session was supposed to go through the middle of next week and the governor has indicated that he will try to get the Speaker and the lieutenant governor to sunny die tomorrow, which means ending that session, and taking away the arrest warrants that are effectively on each of our heads, effectively.

Um, and then it's up to the governor to call the next, and when he calls it, he has to determine what's gonna be on the special session agenda, meaning what does he want to talk about? And you are right, we have successfully stopped the clock.

We are attempting to defeat this particular s- special session call, and it is up to Governor Abbott what he wants to put on next.

Personally, as a Democrat, I would like to see us address the issues around, uh, public health, around public education, and of course, the flooding that has occurred in Central Texas.

But Governor Abbott and Texas Republicans have made it clear the only reason they wanted us there in July was to try to steal five congressional seats and effectively determine the outcome of the election before anybody went to vote.

And so what we have asked for as Democrats is not only to stop that effort, but to raise the national awareness around what Governor Abbott and Trump are attempting to do, and I am grateful to see that today, Governor Newsom has indicated that they are gonna go to the people of the state of California and ask if they are willing to vote to effectively say what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

H- how do you see it? Do you, do you see a path toward an agreement?

Um, is there a consequence and incentive that will be enough to bring you back to the state now, aside from an end to the session?

Uh, I mean, one, I think you're seeing how desperate they are.

I mean, this is a virtual temper tantrum by the governor and now, um, a US sitting senator who is trying to get the FBI to come and get us.

They have threatened our leadership positions, as you mentioned, the fine.

We make $600 a month.

We are a part-time legislature.

And my Republican colleagues want to not only fine me $500 a day, but as you said, they want me and my colleagues to pay the tab for the police officers they're putting out front of our houses, even though they know we're all out of state.

Representative Johnson, I'd love to hear your response to what your colleague shared there.

Um, is there a consequence and incentive that will be enough to bring you back to the state now, aside from an end to the session?

That's right.

... we have had to do this in the last few years.

And it really is an act, it is the last tool that the founding fathers gave to us in the minority to have available when you know that the majority has gone off the rails.

And so, uh, we have been threatened with financial ruin, with arrest, but we are undeterred.

Um, and I think it highlights how important it is that if they will come at us this hard and we actually are in positions of power, look at how easily they run over those that are most vulnerable and don't have a voice.

And so I think that's why we are really resolute in our resolve that this is the right thing to do.
