What can you tell us at this stage about how this near miss may have happened?
0:40
Well, we've now got two incidents that we're investigating over the course of the last two weeks.
0:45
So yesterday's incident, yes, it was done at low speed, but it still it has the potential to be very significant.
0:52
So those two aircraft should not have come as close as they did.
0:55
We had one aircraft that was the Jetstar one preparing for a departure up to the Gold Coast.
1:01
Now, that was full of passengers, full of fuel.
1:03
But then we had a Qatar airline that landed earlier in the morning that was being manoeuvred.

OK, because the public are just going, OK, what on earth is going on at Sydney Airport? Is it understaffing at the control tower? Are they overworked? Can you generalise? Is there a problem? Or do these seem to be two random incidents that just happened?
0:51
know.
0:52
It's a rather bizarre route, especially at Times Radio, I think, because there's a lot of politics, PPE, all kind of just broadcast journalism.
1:00
People know what they want to do.
1:01
I did archaeology just because I liked ancient history at school.
1:05
I like the kind of stories, the aesthetics of it all.
1:08
And I find it fascinating.
2:34
editor was it?
4:05
Can you explain to us in layman's term what that means about the, the nose landing gear failing due to fatigue?
4:13
Yes, absolutely.
4:13
So look, this was the accident that many of your listeners will be aware of.
4:18
Only occurred two months ago, back on the twenty-ninth of April.
4:21
And tragically, as you pointed out, we, uh, we lost a pilot instructor, so the, the instructor on board the aircraft and the pilot undergoing, uh, instruction.
4:32
Now what's happened is very soon after takeoff, they were there conducting, um, a training flight and the plan was to conduct what's known as, um, single engine inoperative.
4:43
So that's the shutting down or the reducing power in one of the engines, um, simulated to simulate an engine failure.
6:34
Is that, uh, something that's done regularly during flight training? Is, is that par for the course?
