So what would healthier homes actually look like? And
10:36
how can design help us get there? Reliable ventilation.
10:40
So reliable meaning property doesn't involve humans.
10:43
We are lovely as a species, but we are not particularly reliable.
10:47
And so reliable ventilation is really referring to having some form of mechanical ventilation so that regardless of the behaviour of the occupants of the building, you can still have filtered air come in from outside in order to balance moisture in particular so that you can avoid condensation and mould.
11:05
Hello, my name's Andy Marlow.
11:06
I'm one of the directors at EnviroTecture.
13:51
sounds like experience

4:42
I'm not going to go into them anymore, but what do you think?
4:45
Oh, look, pretty similar for me, to be honest.
4:49
I love the retrofit focus.
4:51
I thought it was awesome.
4:53
There was a couple of nice talks around projects here, but they were small scale, which is what we've got, which is fine because that's what we've got.
5:01
But then when you contrasted that... with the retrofit guide and they're talking about the stuff in north america in particular yeah where you know they're retrofitting a 40-story 1960s social housing tower like we've got a way to go so there was the inspirational part of it's possible it can be done it's being done and then there's the incredibly sad part about we're just knocking those towers down because we're too lazy to put the effort into work out how to retrofit them so absolutely you know bit of you know Bittersweet.
5:29
Yeah, we've got to start somewhere.

19:36
Why
5:03
That seems like quite a significant shift, going to volume builders and also a retirement village.
5:09
Yeah.
5:10
And so I think I, there's probably a few different bits to it.
5:14
So there's Frasers, so giant property company, pulled off their own, their first certified project a couple of years ago.
5:20
Kate Nason, who also used to be the chair, was back talking a little bit about that project, but also what they're doing next.
5:26
So in some ways they're sort of a little bit ahead of the curve, 'cause they've got a couple of years sort of under their belt on that one.
5:32
So that was good to see.
5:45
Right.
27:07
i understand that hans hansen came away with an armful of awards also oh
27:12
yes the the benedict performance medal is sort of the culmination of a process hybridizers can enter their plant at the beginning and members vote and the the top three or the top five get the award of merit.
27:44
And then the next year, people vote on the award of merit.
27:49
And the top three advance to the next level.
27:56
And then one advances to become the Benedict Medal winner.
28:05
And since last year, the Benedict Medal winner also becomes the hosta of the year.
28:14
The American Hostel Growers Association, who always did the Hostel of the Year, disbanded.
30:34
So someday I'll come across a piece of one, but...
MattHOST
18:55
And you're used to having a business partner too.
18:57
Well, part of it was, so Dick's now re- formally retired.
18:59
He still does whatever we need, whenever we need, but he's formally out.
19:03
Um, and I never wanted to do it by myself.
19:07
Like, I, it was alway- it was sort of inevitably what was gonna happen unless I consciously made another decision.
19:13
And so the evolution of knowing Talina and where we got to where we got to was, like, that was fairly natural, but it coincided with me wanting to find another business partner.

69:03
... decide that you don't wanna be designing anymore? Is there other people kinda waiting in the wings to continue on their legacy?
69:09
So, uh, as you started talking about that, it made me think of...
