And how will it work from the 6th of October? Is that kind of the finished product, if I could put it that way, or is this a transitory period?
37:14
It'll be almost the finished product.
37:17
So one of the last pieces we have to do, we've built a new bridge, which is 19 metres wide across from the T123 transport hub, the new pickup and drop-off zones connecting up to the international terminal.
37:30
That is mostly built, but the last little bit we need to do, we need to connect it into the terminals, but we obviously can't do that while the departures ramp is operating because we need to build it across what is currently the departures road.
37:43
So once that departures road finishes, there'll be a couple of months of work still required just to finish that bridge off.
37:48
But otherwise, as far as the pickup and drop-off zones go, this will be the finished product.
37:54
This will be their new home.
38:55
Do you want to kind of expand a bit on those?
0:18
Can you tell us what the changes are and are they materially better for people who use the airport?
0:26
It's certainly a big change.
0:27
So in a nutshell, the departures ramp, which has been in operation since the airport opened back in July 1970, is closing on October the 5th.
0:40
So that's the ramp that you use currently to drop off anyone who's flying Qantas, International or Virgin Australia.
0:47
And we're closing that because it basically can't keep up with the traffic anymore.
0:51
Anyone who's tried to come here during peak hours would know that sometimes you can sit in a traffic jam for up to 30 minutes trying to get onto that drop-off ramp.
0:58
And we also need the space so we can expand the international terminal.
4:50
How do you think these changes will go over? What are your instincts telling you?
5:39
Can you tell us what the changes are and are they materially better for people who use the airport?
5:47
It's certainly a big change.
5:48

And we also need the space so we can expand the international terminal.
6:55
Okay how was this how has this come about how much I guess research and trial and error and I guess expertise went into this?
70:13
Are you aware of this going on?
70:16
We are, yes, and we're talking to Uber about the behaviour of some of their drivers.
70:19
It's certainly not something we want happening at Melbourne Airport, and our message to passengers would be if it doesn't feel right, it's probably not, so don't get in the car.
70:27
Really, with that pin system, you need to match your pin with the driver before you get in the car, and if for whatever reason it's not matching, let them go, report it, find another ride.
70:37
Well, that's
71:47
And if Melbourne Airport knew about it, if you had the power, you would ban him from attending Melbourne Airport.
71:55
Certainly.
71:56
And we do a lot of work with Safer Transport Victoria as well, who are the sort of state government regulator, just to try to weed out some of those unscrupulous drivers not just uber but taxi as well obviously taxi touting has been a big issue for us over the last couple of years um and they've been increasing the work they've been doing around the airport so um we're certainly keen for people to report any problems they're having because we want to drive this behavior out of the airport it doesn't belong
0:41
Are you aware of this going on?
0:43
We are, yes, and we're talking to Uber about the behavior of some of their drivers.
0:47
Um, it's certainly not something we want happening at Melbourne Airport, and our message to passengers would be, if it doesn't feel right, it's probably not.
0:54
Um, so don't get in the car.
0:55
Really, with that pin system, you need to match your pin with the driver before you get in the car.
1:00
Uh, and if for whatever reason it's not matching, let them go, report it, find another ride.
2:18
if you had the power, you would ban him from attending Melbourne Airport.
2:22
Uh, certainly.
61:15
Do, do I drive into the car park and then what happens?
61:19
Yeah, so the first change you'll notice, uh, when this opens in a couple of months will actually be a new exit off the Tullamarine Freeway.
61:25
So to access pick-up and drop-off at the airport when the new system opens, you'll need to exit the freeway earlier, so look for the signs.
61:33
Um, and then there'll be a new elevated road that will take you directly into the new pick-up and drop-off areas.
61:40
Um, there'll be a much larger drop-off area on level three of the T123 transport hub, which is that car park structure, and then a new larger pick-up area o- on level two, uh, with a new big pedestrian bridge linking, uh, those areas through to the terminals.
62:02
How long will you be able to wait in the drop-off area when you're taking someone to the airport, the new one?
62:08
Look, that won't change.
62:09
We do still need to move people through, even though there'll be much more space for pick-ups and drop-offs.
1:31
How long will you be able to wait in the drop-off area when you're taking someone to the airport, the new one?
1:37
Look, that won't change.
1:38
We do still need to move people through, even though there'll be much more space for pick-ups and drop-offs.
1:44
As you alluded to earlier, we've got far more people using the airport now than we did in 1970, so we need that space to accommodate all the people who are coming through.
1:53
So there will still be a short time limit for people to pick up and drop off.
1:58
That said, there will be overflow areas.
2:00
We understand that not everything always goes to schedule.
2:25
How far will they have to walk to get to the terminal on average?
