but, uh, like 2020 and 2021." Uh, you know, I...

We, we're a Melbourne band as well, um, one of the most locked down cities in the world.

Like, we couldn't...

We had 8:00 PM curfews.

We had insane restrictions.

And, and that's just not how it is.

but, uh, like, 2020 and 2021, uh, you know, I, we, we're a Melbourne band as well, um, one of the most locked down cities in the world.

Like, we couldn't...

We had 8:00 PM curfews.

We had insane restrictions.

It was pretty wild to live through.

And, and that's just not how it is.

Is that accurate? Do you feel like it's a denser release or a darker release for you?

I definitely feel like it's an expansion on what we did on the fourth album.

Um, and the fourth album was like a bit of a derivation from what we'd done on the first three.

So, you know, uh, all the things that we experimented with on detritus, we kind of leant into for exequius and, um, I love that you say it's unpredictable because I try to keep music interesting.

I try to keep things kind of fun for the listener.

Because the things that excite me in music is when a part of a song does something and you go, I wasn't expecting that.

As a songwriter, I love hearing it when other musicians will do things and I go, oh, I never would have thought of that.

it's not like the old days where you would hear something you'd be like damn that was good who was that let me go buy the tape let me you know now it's now it's well i like thrash metal so i'm gonna pull up the the playlist with testament and exodus and overkill and exhorter and that's what i'm gonna hear the same songs i've been here for 40 years they don't discover new music
