So what does a good handoff look like to you?
8:26
You're totally right, Steve.
8:28
So, um, a good handoff, in my opinion, starts from the doctor developing a treatment plan that they formulate in the exam room.
8:39
Then they bring the patient out to the dispensary, where ideally, a- an optician should be waiting to receive the doctor and the patient, and this way does, that transition can take place.
8:57
Now what happens, while the doctor is introducing the patient to the optician, saying, "Hey, Andrew, this is Mrs. Jones," now the doctor can share the pa- the recommended treatment plan for this patient in front of the patient.
9:14
"So Mrs. Jones really does not like her bifocals, so I told her that you, as the eyewear expert, would talk to her about the ones that don't have the line, and I think she may be a little happy wi- happier with that.
9:32
And then we also talked about some prescription sunglasses, 'cause she's having some difficulty when she likes to go out walking and spending time outside, and so I told her that you'd also talk with her about those things." And now, at that point, the patient has witnessed the doctor communicating their recommended treatment plan to this next eye care expert, who is, as you put it, now taking over the authority of their care.

But you on the other side, on the optical side, how involved do you like to see the doctor in this process?
