But thinking like instead of going to hr tech or unleash you go to transform instead of you know being a member of the conference board you join startup experts instead of you know going to i don't know getting a master's from university of illinois which you did you go to people leader accelerator and you learn about some of these things and so can you talk a little bit about that world and what role hr plays in startups and in because they're kind of almost used synonymously now like there's a lot of firms that are backed by private equity as well there's a lot of firms that are vc backed uh some of these terms like venture capital some of these terms might even not even be familiar to my audience so can you talk about that

I feel like it's mysterious for a lot of folks like my my background was, you know, small town Illinois and went to a Big Ten university.

My mom was a teacher.

My dad worked for a subsidiary of Caterpillar.

I'm familiar with it, but it took me years to figure it out.

Where is clarity defined for them and what is their role in helping the organization be clearer?

My answer is HR is the function, is the team that is probably best positioned to lead and facilitate internal communications.

If you're a smaller mid-sized business, call it under a thousand employees.

And that's 95% of the businesses in North America.

are that, you probably don't have a dedicated headcount that is focused on internal communications.

What is the role of a leader when they're literally having to either co-create clarity or translate? Like, what would you recommend to a leader that is still has to do their job, but works within a culture that doesn't get it?
