10:00
Yeah.
10:06
[birds chirping] My name is Andrea Micheli.
10:10
I'm a professor of early intervention in mental health at King's College London.
10:15
I'm a clinical psychologist, and I've worked in the NHS for several years, and one thing I did notice is that when people move from the countryside to London, where I worked, often they will struggle with their mental health.
10:32
And this is something that is reflected in the literature.
10:35
People who live in cities are more vulnerable to developing mental health issues.
10:41
So I wanted to understand why.
14:57
It feels like one symphony of so many different things in, in unity.
11:13
And, and, you know, with the heat waves in London, I'm sure you can attest to what it's like living in an urban setting.
11:22
Yeah, absolutely.
11:23
And what's interesting is if you ask people, um, "Do you, do you struggle w-with your mental health during a, a heat wave?" Um, the vast majority of people will say, "No.
11:35
Actually, I quite like the heat." Uh, particularly in places like the UK, hot temperatures are still considered, uh, you know, a, a good thing.
11:46
Um, but then if you ask them, "How do you sleep during a heat wave?" They would say, "Oh, it's terrible.
11:52
I really struggle.
11:53
I can't sleep." "And how is your energy during a heat wave?" They would say, "I feel exhausted.

Like maybe a library or, uh, public spaces that have air conditioning, something like that maybe?
