I have my response to that, but I really want to hear your response to that.
7:55
Well, there are two questions there.
7:57
And I want to answer the first one first, because I just finished an article for Enterprising Women about women entrepreneurs who sell their business and what comes next.
8:06
To your point, prepare.
8:08
So one woman sold her business, made sure all of her staff had gotten great jobs in the new company, and she got a position as vice president of X or Y.
8:18
And she discovered that all of those folks never came to talk to her.
8:22
They had a different role and responsibility, and she had no role and no responsibility.
12:27
So what about the financial side of retirement? Like, do some of these things help with that or is it really more for fulfillment?
4:28
You know, who is Andy Simon and how did you find like your path to purpose? And also you might want to give us a definition of like corporate anthropologist because maybe people haven't actually heard that term before.
4:43
So my story.
4:45
I am an anthropologist, and I always like to tell people I discovered it by chance as an undergraduate at Penn State.
4:51
I just went to a class, and I was fascinated by people.
4:57
And we were talking about the cultures of different societies throughout history, as well as the fact that humans use culture to tell stories about why them.
5:07
And we're interesting creatures because we like to be with others.
5:11
We like to belong.

Now,
6:42
It sounds like you were just, the germination is there, but why a book?
6:47
Well, a little bit about what I was discovering.
6:50
So being a curious anthropologist, I was hired to study quality and experience in senior living communities out on the West Coast.
7:00
And I went to Oregon and I said to them, if we're going to do this and you really want to understand why these beautiful facilities you've built aren't working particularly well and your scores are pretty mediocre, then I have to live there.
7:14
She said, do it.
7:14
So I went and I lived in an assisted living facility and independent living.
7:20
Everything sort of got attached.

Did you learn? What opened your eyes as far as being as a resident, not as somebody doing her job? But, oh, I didn't think life would be like this.
