My first encountering with this was as a kid.

And the first time that I plugged in an electric guitar into an amplifier and I realized that my volume was way too loud.

Okay.

Interesting.

Yeah.

What do you think is driving the piece, and does that acceleration excite you or scare you or both?

Uh, I think the answer is both.

And [laughs] in all honesty, you think about when ChatGPT hit, you know, hit the scene, if you will, like, around 2022, um, the whole notion of having, um, access to these systems and being able to think about, you know, how to use them, why we would use them, then to study them, you know, came up pretty quickly.

So I would say that in that, you know, ripple effect of seeing, uh, AI all of a sudden become somewhat democratized, and all of a sudden, all of us are thinking about, "Well, wow, why don't we, why don't we see how we can use this in our day-to-day practice in helping patients and educating and, and furthering, uh, research, et cetera." And so it's a pretty quick, um, explosion of studies and interest, which I think comes from that.

I don't think anyone can underestimate the importance of the first, um, you know, publicly available LLM and, and where these things have gone.

Not just to say that ChatGPT was the first on the scene.

There have been other systems that have been, uh, available, but not readily available.

And so, um, my question for you is, you know, how, how do you as an associate editor, how do I as an editor of a scientific journal set the standards for AI in decision-making tools that, as Ameen say, may actually impact clinician recommendations? Um, how do we ensure that it is appropriate methodology and has been validated, you know, before it goes into clinical practice when you do have that black box technology?
