Mm-hmm.

I inherited the program from Fiona Raby, who was already, uh, kind of, uh, pushing the work to be more critical, more speculative.

And, uh, when I joined the department, uh, there was a real interest from the students to call it something that foregrounds the way we think and practice a bit more.

And so when we decided to call it Design Investigations over the last 10 years, it became clear that, uh, we were really actually exploring quite a lot of different topics, um, at different scales, whether it's t- thinking about how we design windmills or what does it mean to live in a world of food insecurity, or what does democracy even mean today.

We were inviting our students over the last, uh, decade to grapple, uh, with the ways in which the role of the designer will shift in keeping with the complexity and change in the world around us and the-- where the future is heading.

And so it became quite obvious over the f- years that ultimately, the kind of questions that the students were asking became even more important than the answers, because there are no simple solutions to a lot of things that we are talking about.

Uh, if you think about it, design solutions, solutions under quotes from the world of design is also part of the problem that we are in-

And there's something quite poetic about that to me.

Yeah.

And I would argue that could be seen as dangerous.

That something that I have sensed for a while, I think maybe also like Vin might have also written about it to an extent around, you know, for us, that sort of, you know, where we had this home, where we had built this apartment, the Almost exactly 10 years ago, John and I, anxious about where the trajectory of climate breakdown, decided that we wanted to imagine and build a home our four-year-old son might live in when he'd be our age.

So that was around, would come to around 2050 or so.

And we built this home and people could walk into it.

And it was first class, seemingly comfortable living space.
