Who was Sarah Keys Evans and how did you come to writing this history?

Right, well, Sarah Keyes Evans is a little-known civil rights hero.

I hope this book will change that.

She was born in 1929.

It's a small town of Washington, North Carolina.

And after she graduated from high school, she moved to New Jersey and joined the Women's Army Corps and was a member of the Women's Army Corps stationed at that time in 1952 at Fort Dix in New Jersey.

And she had just been promoted to become a private first class and was going to take her first trip home to North Carolina since joining the military.
