I guess for me, my mentorship has been through osmosis, because I would not say that I have had direct relationships with a mentor.

I've never had a conversation with anyone about it, but certainly my husband has, and I've been an indirect beneficiary of everything that he's learnt, because he takes on board what he has learnt from them and by virtue of us working together-

Acai or chocolate is actually one of my favorites, and I load it with a lot of fresh fruit, nuts, granola, and maybe some peanut butter.

So how did you actually set about assessing that resilience level?

So we were quite fortunate.

We were able to work with a very large, long-term team.

Merino sheep trial that was being conducted at our Chiswick field station in northern New South Wales.

It was a long-term study looking at Merino lifetime production and as part of that work we were able to add on a project where we specifically looked at how animals respond to vaccines in a typical production and what we could consider a commercial environment.

So we know animals are stressed by certain events that happen and for example the weaning process is quite a stressful event in the animal's life so we were really keen to try and measure these animals and looking at their vaccine response to give us a handle on how that the immunological response is in that production environment And to try and, yeah, can we identify these animals that are able to cope better with a stressful event like weaning, but able to resist disease and give us some indication of how they're going to perform later in life for when we're asking them to cope with other challenges they have in those production environments.

Okay, so how can farmers use this? And I understand it's an ongoing study, but if farmers decide that resilience or that resilience trait is a priority, how can individual farmers identify it and to select for it? That's a really good

question.
