Um, so at Barnham we're, we're really, really hands-on because the children can't learn about the soil unless they truly understand it and they can explore it, um, and they can investigate it under microscopes, up close, different types of soil.

So I think starting from our youngest children, we, we explore different types of soil.

So we may be looking at soil in a woodland that's got a real high level of organic material, and we'll be looking and identifying features of that soil and maybe comparing it to the soil on our own school playing field and looking at similarities and differences.

Then just some very, very simple investigations, planting something as obvious as sunflowers and looking at do they respond differently, um, to the different soil types? Does the increased organic matter, um, give earlier growth, give stronger growth? Um, looking at that from our early years and as we move through the school our children get a bit older.
