James ButtsGUEST
I think a lot of people, if you pay attention, you'll hear somebody say that they'll have an argument with their significant other, and then after the fight, they'll calm down, and then they'll replay or think about that argument again, and they'll be like, oh, what did I do? And then they'll try and reconcile that, but I think that's another illustration of how the amygdala can get in the way and impact the prefrontal cortex.

Amber WalkerGUEST
Yeah, I think that's a great example because then we can talk about going from that example of how in the moment, because the amygdala does take over and it is like having a toddler brain active, how you can calm the body so then you are able to get into more of your, you know, your adult self brain, right? Exactly.

Amber WalkerGUEST
Looking at doing, I mean, one of the best ways to calm the body immediately because the cortisol is pumping too, right? Like the stress hormone.

Amber WalkerGUEST
So these chemicals aren't flowing through the body, getting you ready, right? Into this activated state or your amygdala is turned on, right? So closing that amygdala down is tactical breathing.

so so i was kind of like you know i trained really hard i think i can do better i just got to figure out the the race day nutrition piece and so i ended up doing another marathon a couple months later and um qualified for Boston and then, yeah, really got, really got the bug then and was really into it and ended up, it was a couple of months before Boston that I decided to go on this, this trip I called 30 Tirement.

Amber WalkerGUEST
Like, you know, why do we have this idea of waiting till we're 65 or whatever to retire? So I sold everything, put a couple things in storage, sold most of my stuff, just had an open house, had most of my friends come over and pick out what they wanted, you know, grabbed a backpack, got a one-way ticket to Australia, and then ran around New Zealand as well.

Amber WalkerGUEST
And so I was basically down there training, which was a great way to also travel.

Amber WalkerGUEST
I mean, I would go on these long runs around like Sydney, Australia, and just What? What? Yeah, yeah, random part of the story.
